Morley sits about five miles southwest of Leeds city centre, built across seven hills that give the town its distinctive, undulating character. Historically a powerhouse of the "shoddy" textile trade, the town’s industrial past is still visible in the architecture of the grand mills and the imposing Italianate Town Hall, which remains a focal point for the community. Geography is one of Morley's main practical advantages; it is positioned right near the intersection of the M62 and M1, and the local train station provides a direct ten-minute link into Leeds. Life here tends to revolve around the bottom of Queen Street, where the Victorian indoor market and a mix of traditional shops keep the centre busy. Despite its proximity to the city, Morley retains its own distinct identity as a standalone market town, bordered by the green spaces of Dartmouth Park and Chudleigh, offering a bit of breathing room from the urban sprawl.
