Nestled in a deep valley where the Wellow and Seven Brooks meet, Radstock sits roughly nine miles south of Bath, shaped by a steep topography that gives the town its distinct character. For over a century, it served as the bustling heart of the Somerset coalfield, and that industrial heritage is still visible today; the radial street pattern and the Victorian terraces of the "Artisan Dwellings" were built specifically for the local miners. While the pits have long since closed, the town has transitioned into a quiet, practical hub centered around its vibrant local museum and the intersection of the A367 and A362. It is particularly well-connected for those who enjoy the outdoors, as it sits at the junction of several major cycle paths, including the Greenway which follows the old railway tracks through the valley towards Frome and Midford. Life here tends to feel more grounded and functional than in the grander Georgian hills of nearby Bath, offering a mix of reliable local amenities and straightforward access to the Mendip Hills just a few miles to the south.
