Waltham Cross sits right on the border where North London meets Hertfordshire, serving as the southernmost point of the Borough of Broxbourne. It takes its name from the Eleanor Cross, a 13th-century monument built by Edward I which still stands in the town’s pedestrianised centre. Geographically, it’s a practical hub; you’re positioned just inside the M25 and a short walk from the Lee Valley White Water Centre, which offers a vast expanse of parkland and waterways stretching north towards Hertfordshire and south into London. The railway station provides a direct link into Liverpool Street in about 25 to 30 minutes, while the nearby bus station acts as a major interchange for the wider Lea Valley area. It has a busy, functional feel, with a mix of traditional high street shops and the large Pavilions shopping centre, all set within a location that feels more urban than the leafy villages found just a few miles further north.
